Feeling that explaining things to his son first would help him learn some more words hopefully since he was still young. Emrys knew everything wouldn't be understood but by hearing the words he could associate them later to the actions. When. He asked about questions and Elyan shook his head. The pale healer gave his son some more time to consider the question in case he changed his mind.

Being how long it had been since he was a pup Elyan's age he didn't not remember how he might have put things together to better understand them. As he watched his son he wondered what his boy was thinking at that moment.

When the gray boy asked about starting the healer knew that he was ready to get going and start the lesson. With a nod he rose to his feet, we will start here by the spring. Many animals come here to get a drink of water. He began sniffing for the scent of rabbit so that he could show his son what it smelled like. When he found it he turned to his son, “Come sniff this,” he told him indicating the scent in the grass which was leading away from spring.

The boy jumped up when his father indicated that they would be starting the lesson. He followed his father's pale figure to the edge of the spring and watched as he began sniffing the ground. Not wanting to miss a single moment he stayed close keeping a watchful eye on Emrys as he started to move away from the water. He had sniffed around before but he hadn't ever had an idea of what he was looking for. He had done it because all of the interesting and new scents that he could find.

His father's voice broke through his thoughts when he called to his son to get him to come and sniff something on the ground. Elyan didn't waste any time as ran to the place his dad had pointed out. He lowered his nose to the ground and took in the scent. There was something oddly familiar about it but he wasn't sure exactly. It was definitely something he had smelled before but he couldn't figure out where.

Elyan looked up to his father “What is it?” He asked still trying to figure out where he had encountered the scent last. His little tail waved behind him as he continued to think as hard as he could.

He would not waste anymore time with talking, it was time to show his son about hunting. So he began with the first step in the process, at least it was usually what he did. Finding the track so that he could follow his prey to wherever it happened to be. If Elyan could do that then he could find anything so this skill would serve him well.

Emrys had found a rabbit track and called his son to investigate so that he would know the scent. He watched as his boy took in the scent before he seemed to think about it. The pale leader waited patiently for his son’s reaction. “Rabbit,” he replied when asked what it was. The boy had eaten plenty of rabbit so he knew the scent he just didn't know he knew it.

“I want you to see if you can follow it,” he told Elyan, “I will be as well in case you need some help.” He wasn't going to tell the boy what to do but if a little nudge in the right direction was needed he would give it. This was a learning experience and the child was allowed to make mistakes.

His dad had shown him a smell that he had experienced before only Elyan couldn't figure out where. He asked his father what the smell belonged to hoping that might help him determine where but it hadn't rung any bells in his head when his father told him rabbit. Maybe he would figure it out later when he saw what they were looking for. Now that they had this smell he wondered what he was supposed to do with it next.

His father didn't keep him waiting quickly telling him to follow the smell. Elyan considered this instruction for a moment since he knew what follow meant. He had done this before though not really on purpose so he set his nose to the ground and continued looking for it through the grass. Emrys as he promised was right behind him though the pup couldn't tell if he was following the smell too.

Through the grass further and further from the spring he searched until something happened. The smell seemed to disappear and again he looked to his dad for help. His brain had been working the whole time trying to figure out where the smell was from and after following it for...well he wasn't sure how long he figured it out. His parents bring him rabbits all the time, he knew what they looked like. This excited the boy that he had figured it out which caused his tail to beat a more rapid rhythm.

As they continued in their search for prey Emrys gave his son simple instructions before leaving it up to the boy to figure out how to carry them out. In this way he hoped he could teach the procedure of it as well as how to figure things out in his own. The pale father wanted to give his children every tool he could to help them along as they got older and moved through life. He would be lying if he said he didn't hope his son would follow in his paw prints but it was always up to Elyan what he wanted to do.

The father watched his son closely after giving the instruction and then proudly as the boy figured it out and started to follow the trail. Emrys stayed behind his son as the grey child moved through the forest so that he didn't get in the way of the process that might be going on inside Elyans head. His brow did raise as he noticed the change in his son, the rapidly wagging tail, Emrys wondered if maybe Elyan had hit upon something. “ What is it son?” He asked still watching his child's back before looking to the trail for any signs or clues of what he might have missed.

Since he’d followed trails before though not purposely it wasn't hard to stay on the trail his father had set him on. It had given him time to think about it and run the scent through all the memories he could pull forward that the scent might exist in. Then finally it came to him, rabbit, he'd been eating it since he had started eating solid food. Now the hunt became that more exciting and he wanted to find their pretty as quickly as possible. That was until something stopped him in his tracks.

It was his father's voice wanting to know what it was. Elyan wasn't sure what his father was talking about so he decided to go with the only thing that made sense to him. “This scent same as food you and Mom bring,” he told his father mismatched gaze looking up into the icy blue one. Elyan wondered what his father would think of that. A moment later he turned back to the trail and started following it, something told him they were getting close.

In all the time that Jynx had been pregnant with their children the pale healer had thought about all the things he wanted to teach his children. How he would teach them and a lot of his methods were taken from what his mother had taught him. She had always let him go giving just enough instructions he would he able to figure things out. This same method seemed to he doing well for Elyan for he was picking things up pretty quickly. The pale leader was eager to see how he would do when it came to actually catching the prey which he felt they would find out soon enough. The scent was very fresh where they had momentarily stopped.

He had been curious about what had gotten his boy so excited and was soon rewarded with an answer. A proud smile crossed his features as he realized the connection his boy had made. “That is very good Elyan. That scent belongs to rabbits which is a lot of what we brought to you and your sister when you were younger.” The father was very pleased with his son to have made the connection and now he hoped that Elyan would be ready to see the rabbits alive and up close.

The boy couldn't be happier with himself for being able to figure out about the scent. He could not only hear the pride in his father's tone but see it in his face as he spoke and explained further. “Rabbits,” the grey agouti repeated so that he could commit the name to memory. They were on the trail and Elyan had noticed a change in the event as he followed it too. It seemed to get stronger the further they went. He wasn't sure what that meant so he turned to his father. Surely he would know what it meant and would be happy to explain it to him.

Before he could ask however that too clicked in his mind and he realized that they had to he getting closer. This time he looked to his father with a new question. “Do you think we have much farther to go and what do we do when we get there?” He asked excitedly his tail beating a fast rhythm behind him. Elyan wondered if ye would get his chance to bring a rabbit home and show his mother he was a good hunter like she was. He waited looking up into the ice blue eyes of his father for further instructions.

As much as he might want to see his son catch a rabbit in his first try the pale leader knew that it was probably something that wouldn't happen. Elyan hadn't ever done anything like this and hunting took practice. As they continued in the trail they had been following the father was please with his son's progress. However the real test of his skills and how much he knew was going to be upon them soon. The scent had become fresher which meant they were getting very close. Emrys did worry about the disappointment his son would feel if he wasn't able to catch a rabbit in his first try. He hoped that the boy would understand that it took practice to get better, to know the right times to pounce and how fast rabbits were.

His son's question was met with a smile from the pale healer, “No Elyan, I think we are very close so we will have to be extra careful from here in so we don't scare them away before we even have our chance,” he explained. This was the most important part since you couldn't catch a rabbit if you scare it away long before you're ready to start the chase. “Shall we continue on? We must be very quiet and vigilant. You want to see them before they see you.” That was the best advice he could give his son at this time. Once they found the rabbits he would give further instructions.
