It was time to boost morale. However, as much as Lachesis wanted to retaliate and chase another deer into the heart of Keep territory he was no fool. If they were going to attack their undesirable neighbours they were going to have a plan. Maybe even some backup. But he wasn’t going in blindly; that was for his impulsive, moronic neighbours.
For now he needed to keep his subordinates fed and strong. Keep them stimulated so they did not grow dull of the Surge. The pack’s neighbours had mostly remained the same over the summer months despite his hopes for them to expand. He was thankful for the river wolves and their unwavering loyalty amongst the sudden drama that had plagued them. Mostly he was thankful for his mate for keeping him sane and keeping him rooted to the mountain forest when he wanted nothing more than to march into the heart of the Keep—
He gave his head a shake as he started off to the southern edge of the lake: where he had last seen the herd of mule deer. There had been an older buck with a subtle limp he had singled out previously; he just hoped that he was not too lake to slay the beast.
He had given a call for his subordinates (including the children) to follow if they were nearby. He did not expect the entire pack to show up nor would he enforce it. He only needed a pawful of wolves to take down the buck.
The ghost streaked through the trees, following the trail of deer toward the edge of the lake. Perhaps the deer believed that seeking out the large body of water would keep them safe from the river wolves… little did they know it would only make it easier for the pack to corner them and prevent them from escaping. More specifically the buck he’d chosen.
He watched from the treeline as he group of deers headed, cautiously, to the edge of the water. His chartreuse gaze remained fixated on the chosen one as he waited for his subordinates to join him.
