I’m Done Putting Out The Fires You Start
The days had thankfully remained warm despite the trees beginning to change colour, and the earliest boughs dropping their leaves. Marrah was acutely aware that winter was approaching faster than she would like and that she had no idea how to survive it alone. The yearling was filling her days with trying to prepare, searching for the best spots to take cover from storms, digging caches, trying to hunt what game she could.
The once plump frame was slimming as she was surviving on her own. Marrah did not appear worse for wear yet, but she certainly was not in her prime as she should have been at this age. Amber eyes appeared sad and somewhat haunted, and her mental health was suffering from loneliness and self blame. Still, as many nights as she dreamed of being home with Enera, Auntie Woya and Adelard, she knew she never would be.
Moving on autopilot the girl made her way through the first cavern. She had been here the other day but had been too cautious to go any deeper. Today she had lots of time before the sun would set, and nothing better to do.
