Shatter yawned, leaning his head down and taking a drink, enjoying the cool water that lapped at his legs. The sounds of the night were pleasant, and it was times like these that the aging loner took a moment to think. The peace was calming, but where it would cause a lulling effect on some, it did just the opposite to this lupine. His ears would twitch at every nearby sound, eyes would flicker toward the lightning bug or the fish splashing somewhere in the distance.
These were the moments when he would wonder whether he should go back to his birth name. Shatter, wasn't a becoming name for any child; but it was what he had given himself to separate from his old life. As a yearling it was a good idea, and the thought had been clever. Now, it seemed juvenile, but it stuck. Nequam, no longer suited him the way that he wished it to. It was the name that his sister would call him if she was here... but she had long since forgotten him. The woman had a pack and a family, there was no need to disturb her.
So here he was, having come god knows how far, detached and aching for a replacement for his old home and all that went with it. The man had come a long way, what he needed to decide now, was whether he wanted to stir up his life and add a few ripples to the blank canvas; or settle down.
