Fight Post 2/3

Kajika quickly regained his feet, which didn’t surprise the veteran in the slightest.  The man was nimble and deserved his position as the pack beta.  The veteran patiently waited for the next attack, preferring to stick to defense and counter-attacks.  This had been his tactic during the war.  It kept the blood boiling enough to lend him strength, but not enough to override his senses.  He could be angry, and he could be patient.  Just like he had to be right now.

The beta had learned from his previous attack, and instead rushed Tagg’s blind side. He couldn’t help a small smirk as he ducked, huddling close to the ground and throwing his weight against the darker wolf’s fast-approaching legs. He’d had to let his opponent at least try for his so-called ‘weaker’ side, though the russet man had been half blind for long enough that he had plenty of practice defending it.

His move worked, knocking Kajika off balance and sending him once again to the ground. Tagg danced away, giving his friend the space to climb back to his feet.  This didn’t seem like much of a spar; Kajika must really be upset if he couldn’t land a blow.  He was better than this, and the subordinate knew it. He’d give him another chance.

Feel free to pp him missing and ending up in the dirt again, lol

He didn't know what was happening and why he couldn't land a single blow to his opponent. What it that he was so upset over the recent events that it was clouding his judgement? He knew he was better than what he was showing to be in that moment as he yet again picked himself up off the ground after missing his target once more. His sides heaved as he breathed heavily in frustration towards himself, he needed to get it together.

The way he was going in this spar if he were to face the man that killed Des at that point he would end up. Just like her and he certainly couldn't let that happen, not when he had Moonshadow and Chan to take care of. He still needed to find Lunette and make sure she was okay, he could not afford for any fight he got into the go badly.

He gazed across the distance between himself and the man who he called a friend, the mate of his student and friend. This was friendly of course but Kajika would like the chance to land at least one blow to restore his faith in himself. So he tried a tactic that hadn't worked on Moonshadow but could work on Tagg. He glanced over the man's shoulder as if he had seen something behind his friend. Then when he felt it was safe charged aiming for Tagg’s scruff in hopes to finally knock him off his feet.

Fight Post 3/3

Tagg couldn’t help but feel a little bad for the beta as he tried an obvious tactic – glancing over his shoulder. The fur on his neck prickled, but he hadn’t heard anyone approach as so kept his eye on his sparring partner.  He couldn’t help the one ear that twitched back, just in case something had snuck up on him.

His battle-tested focus proved once again to be helpful, as Kajika charged him after the attempted distraction.  For a moment, Tagg considered slipping up and letting the darker man land at least a small blow… but no, he wouldn’t learn anything if he coddled him.

Tagg calmly stepped to the side again, and lashed out with one front paw right as Kajika barreled past. He hooked his foot around the beta’s ankles, tripping him up and sending him face-first into the dirt. Again.

He quietly stepped back and sat down.  The pounding in his ears had quieted.  Their sparring session had worked for him; his anger was now a quiet seething, like a feline waiting for the perfect moment to leap from the underbrush. He wasn’t so sure it had helped Kajika much, except perhaps a lesson on keeping one’s emotions from clouding one’s fighting judgement.

“I think that’s good.” He said quietly, not wanting to be condescending to his friend but not wanting to continue a fight that he was clearly not in the right mind to fight.

Ooc: No Worries!

It was getting rather clear to the beta that perhaps now was not the right time for him to be having a spar. Every single blow he tried to land on the tawny man had failed. He had also considered the thought that perhaps he just wasn't a match for Tagg. Even considered that he may need more training but in the end he felt that his head just wasn't in the game. His emotions we're still all over the place after finding Des and he was letting then get the better of him.

So as he tried once again to land a blow he felt the tawny man hook his ankle and soon found himself falling forward. Again he landed in the dirt and this time he didn't get up immediately not sure he was ready to face another failed attempt. He could take a failed blow here and there but this was just ridiculous. The dark man was reminded of the spar he'd had with Moonshadow when she’d had as good of luck as he was having.

This must have been how she had felt then and he'd tried to make her feel better about but even reminding himself of the words he'd spoken to her didn't help. He shook his head before rising to his feet, this was an embarrassing situation for he was the beta and he was supposed to be better than what he had shown.

Kajika slowly faced Tagg waiting for the man to prepare his next attack. He had initiated this spar and he had to finish it but whatever anger he had been feeling before was now replaced with an overwhelming feeling of disappointment in himself. When the attack didn't come he was confused until Tagg spoke.

The dark man nodded at his friend's words, ”I think you're right maybe today just wasn't the day. Perhaps we can go again sometime.” Maybe at a later time he will be in a better place to give the tawny man a good challenge

If Tagg was feeling better after the scuffle, it was somewhat diminished by the knowledge that it had only proven to frustrate his friend even more. While the man was pleased to have done well in the fight – if it could really be called that – he was a little concerned about the beta’s ability.  Moon had told him that her fight with the teacher had turned out much like this one, though in the other wolf’s favor.  He’d expected a little more.

“If I may,” Tagg said gently, “it might help when fighting if you don’t let your frustration get the better of you. It was a lesson that took me an embarrassingly long time to learn, but I am confident that with a little more practice, you could master it.”

The veteran might not be a teacher, but he wanted to help Kajika improve.  He might be able to fight, but if he got into a serious quarrel and pulled something like this again, he could die. Tagg had to use this as a teaching opportunity as well as a learning one, and he hoped the darker man would do the same. It was important to him to do what he could to protect his packmates, even if it meant helping them protect themselves.

Ooc: You can fade and archive with your next post.;)

The scuffle that had meant to work off some of the frustration and anger that he felt after finding Des and what happened to Moonshadow had only made it worse. He knew better than to let his emotions get the better of him during a fight, and yet he'd done just that. Wasn't his advice to Moonshadow when one of their spars had gone badly for her. Maybe it was different because this time he was grieving a lost love. He'd cared so much for Des even if the end wasn't like the beginning, he still loved her. He was disappointed in himself for the way things had gone in the scuffle.

Tagg spoke offering words of encouragement and offering advice. It was advice he was aware of but he didn't get angry about the tawny man telling him. Instead he sighed and nodded his head. “Thank you Tagg. I will bare that in mind for the next time and practice as you suggested.”

What else was he to say when he had performed so poorly. Maybe it wasn't a lesson that he had learned as well as he thought.

“I should probably get going to do a patrol or something.” Perhaps go and hide in his den for the rest of the day. It was rather embarrassing that he had done so badly in front of Tagg. With that said he gave the tawny man a nod, “I will see you later.” Then he turned a slipped into the forest to seek out a quiet place to think over how it had gone so wrong.

OOC! I'm Back!

------------------------------------------------------

Word Count: 206

Tagg almost felt bad about the way the fight had turned out – he almost felt as if he had used Kajika.  Should he have gone easier on him? But no, that wouldn’t have solved anything and probably would have made the beta even more upset.  He was a tiny bit pleased though; as guardian, he should be able to fight well, even angry.  It was good to get that practice in once again.

As Kajika spoke he simply nodded and wished him farewell.  He wasn’t going to follow him or try to make him feel better for now.  His friend obviously needed some time alone to reflect; the veteran just hoped he had been able to teach him something. If they were going to fight together to exact revenge upon those that had wronged them, he needed to know that the darker man was going to have his back, no matter the circumstances.

Tagg watched him go, then turned and trotted through the trees to find Moon.  He wanted to tell her about the spar.  He also wanted to curl up and sleep for several days.  He was weary – oh so weary.

How did all of this happen? He wondered. What more is coming for us?
