Pyriel Albarn

The heights second was glad that the trail he had led his alpha to still held the goat scent. The last thing he wanted was for Greer to think him an incompetent second. He led the dark male down the trail the scent was still faint but didn't seem to be as much as it was when they had first started down it. For his part Greer offered encouragement along the way which was helpful to Pyre being that he was a new member and it was always good to know when he was doing the right thing. While he followed his nose he considered what they might come upon when. They finally did catch up to the herd.

Would there be a goat that was young, old, or injured that they might be able to pick off? He wasn't sure but what he did know was how important it was to bring down such large prey for the pack.

As Greer gave his warnings about the goats Pyriel turned an ear back to his alpha to hear them. “We will have to take all of those things into consideration when making our plan.” The pale agouti didn't want either of them to become injured during this hunting trip. He would remain cautious of all the things that the dark man had spoke of. “We can make a good assessment of the situation when we catch up to them and then make our strategy to catch one of them.”

I am cool with using the hunt opportunity. :)

The trail had grown stronger as they began their ascent. His pace quickened, ears falling flat against his crown as he kept a watchful gaze on the rocks in the distance. The goats were sneaky; nimble. They were more suited to the mountain than the wolves were; they would use the rocks to their advantage. It was a hunt they should have pursued as a trio but Greer had faith in both their abilities despite not seeing Pyriel in action before.

He could see the pale shapes meandering about the rock as they got closer, their sharp horns glinting in the final light of the falling sun. His silver gaze fell to the agouti as he spoke, commenting on Greer’s warnings about the goats. They would have to find the perfect specimen to separate from the herd and take down. Preferably one that had already wandered away, distancing themselves from the rest of the herd. Night was creeping up on the pair, which meant the herd would be settling in for the night and regrouping. They would have to act fast if they wanted to fell one of them before the moon took the sun’s place…

A new scent caught Greer’s attention as they continued along their path, causing his head to turn. His jaws parted slightly to taste the air as he tried to locate where it was coming from, his brows pinched tightly together. Deer. He blinked, surprised by the appearance of the young creature. It seemed luck was in the favour of the hunters tonight. Returning his mercury gaze to his companion he motioned over his shoulder, toward where the deer was. “Easier?” Perhaps they could save the goat for another day when they had numbers on their side… at least they knew where the herd was now, which would make tracking them again much easier…

The trail might not have started out very promising but the further they went down it the fresher the scent became. The pale agouti was relieved the trail hadn't ended up leading them to nothing. This was the first time he'd hunted with the alpha and he didn't want to mess up and look badly in front of Greer. They were getting closer to the rocks that were now visible in front of them. The goats would be dwelling there which would put both him and his companion at a disadvantage. Their pretty was more suited for climbing the rocks and moving around quickly than the two wolves which could possibly quite a few problems when trying to bring one down.

Greer had mentioned a few things in regards to the goats which we're concerns they would have to remember while pursuing the hoofed creatures. Neither one of them could afford to be injured trying to fell their prey. With so few in the pack every able body needed to help provide. Pyriel personally knew he wouldn't be able to stay quiet while he healed from any injuries. The one thing that did worry him more than the safety of the hunt was his shoulder. He hoped it didn't start acting up in the middle of their pursuit since it had been doing so with the colder weather. It felt okay for the time being so he would go until it hurt so badly he couldn't

He looked to Greer as his nose caught the scent of something else and Pyre could see that the alpha had smelled it too. The scent was of deer which posed some concerns but not as many as the goats did. He was certain the two men could take one of them down together easily. He took the signal from Greer and nodded, “I think so. We can come back later for the goats,” he suggested. They knew where the goats were and they didn't seem to be leaving the area. So it might be wise to take the deer now and come back later for the goats with reinforcements. <B “It might be the better option for now.” </b>

The goats would be a better option for the pair when they were accompanied by their packmates. Greer did not doubt their abilities in taking down one of the more frail creatures, but with the rest of the herd lingering so close—their sharp horns glinting in the dropping sun—the shadow did not want to risk injury. Nodding to show he had heard, and agreed with, him, the Archer motioned for the agouti to follow him down the path. Quick, he said with the sharp lash of his tail, his pace quickening as he maneuvered over the rocks. They could not waste any time with the deer, for it could escape down the mountainside before the pair even launched their attack. I’ll go left, you go right, he instructed silently through wags of his tail and a few sharp flicks of his nose to get his point across. He waited for Pyriel to confirm before moving into position, his mercury gaze lingering on the dark-eyed male before they returned to the deer.

It was a choice between deer and goats and as much as the pale man wanted to catch a goat for the pack he knew that the deer was the better choice. So that was what they were going to go with, they could come back later for the goats. From Greer’s nod Pyriel knew that the alpha agreed with him on the matter so now all they had to do was to catch themselves a deer.

Following his leader's nonverbal instructions he moved quickly down the path on Greer’s heels. He kept close and watched the man for further directions. This wasn't hard as he'd had to do things like this back home all of the time. Finally they came as he was told to go right, Pyriel gave the man a nod before breaking away from him to go right as instructed making sure to keep quiet.

Greer kept low to the ground, his ears flush against the back of his crown as he circled left around the deer. His mercury gaze flitted over to Pyriel’s pale figure in the distance to ensure he was in place. Once he blocked off the deer’s escape route Greer crept forward, the dark fur on his stomach brushing against the stone as he closed the distance between himself and the young creature. Without hesitation the shadow rushed forward, his long legs carrying him quickly over the rocky terrain as he herded the deer toward his hunting partner, his sharp fangs nipping at the back of the deer’s heels as it took off, heading straight for Pyriel…

The pale agouti kept low and silent as he crept around the right side of the deer. He kept an eye on the dark alpha in case he had further instruction. Then when he was in a position that he would be directly in the path of the deer when Greer made his move he stopped and waited. As he saw the dark wolf start to push the deer his way Pyriel prepared to pounce, the deer came at him and waiting for just the right moment. The deer didn't have time to turn and get away before white teeth sunk into it's neck causing it to struggle under the weight of it's assailant.

His agouti partner did not waste time in launching himself at the deer. A wicked grin tugged at the shadow’s lips as he propelled himself forward. Without hesitation Greer threw his weight onto the creature’s hindquarters, his jaws reaching for the deer’s meaty thigh. A metallic taste filled his mouth, meaning that the Archer had met his mark. His claws dug into the creature’s body in order to steady himself as he pulled down with all his weight in an attempt to cause the deer to buckle. Releasing their prey Greer changed his strategy, leaping toward the opposite side and repeating his attack, his teeth grazing the deer’s right hind leg—pulling, tugging. The creature was already fumbling, struggling to stay afloat, but it wasn’t going to go down without a fight. Like the wolves, it was persistent and feverishly attempted to steady itself, its ebony pupils wide with fear.

There wasn't any way for the deer to escape them, this hunt was in the bag and all that was left was to bring their spoils back to the pack. If course they still had to fell the deer which Pyriel was confident his attack would go off without a hitch. While his training as a warrior had only one purpose when he was in the bloodbreakers he could certainly use it here.

That was exactly what he did, using his speed and coordination he placed a well aimed bite on the neck of the creature which slowed it. He wasn't able to bring the creature down but himself so he held on as tightly as he could until Greer could join him. Together they made it extremely difficult for the deer to fight them off and fight she did. In the end though she finally collapsed with exhaustion. Pyriel landed on top of her having not let go of his grasp on the deer's neck the entire time. Within moments the last breath had finally left the creature and her body stilled beneath him.

Greer continued to lunge and pull at the creature as Pyriel remained at the neck, shifting from side to side, attacking the deer’s hindlegs and stomach. The shadow knew there was nothing the creature could do—despite it’s feeble attempts at fighting the wolves off, there was no shrugging the pair off. Eventually the deer’s knees buckled, and it fell to the ground in exhaustion, the wolves still attached. Greer stumbled backward, his jaws falling away from the deer’s warm hide. His silver gaze fell upon his hunting partner, a wicked grin tugging at his lips while his tail wagged softly from behind him. “Good.” The deer was not as large as the goats, but it would be enough to feed the small pack for awhile. A pack hunt was long overdue, which meant there would be even more food to add to the caches. If all went well, the mountain pack would be well prepared for the winter months.
