The sun had not yet risen in the sky as Lorcan made his way along one of the many paths which skirted along the borders of Willow Ridge territory. The male’s sleeping pattern had still not fully returned to normal since his three week period spent recovering inside the infirmary. This morning, though, Lorcan did not mind that he had arisen at such an early hour. He was on a mission, one which required him to be up and alert during the hours of dawn and dusk.

Lifting his nose towards the dark sky, the male breathed in a lungful of crisp morning air through the light sheets of rain. A hot cloud of breath pushed past his lips as he exhaled sharply, shoulders sagging in disappointment at not yet catching a whiff of the lynx’s scent in the breeze. Giving a determined flick of his tail, Lorcan trundled on through the forest of bare willow trees. He would not give up on tracking down the creature anytime soon.

She was not aware that the ridge could possibly have a lynx problem, at least she wasn't until she started noticing more signs of it. Having the pups in the territory it sent Leotie a little on edge especially since she knew about the felines. She remembered fighting the two that had been in the territory that now belonged to the draw. She'd been there that day and she'd fought alongside side her former packmates.

Thinking back to it she thought of @Triell and how much she missed him and she hoped that he was doing better than the last time she saw him. She wondered if she might be able to go and visit him but she would have to speak with Sven and Ravenna first.

She was out early again though this time it wasn't her nightmares that had brought her away from Sven's side that morning. While she wished she could have stayed curled up against him a little longer she had work to do. Moving through the willows on her way back toward the den she caught Lorcan's scent on the wind. Her head tilted in curiosity before she went off to find him. “What are you doing out here so early?” She asked when she finally found him.

Much to Lorcan’s delight, the willow trees provided some shelter against the light rain which fell from the dark sky that morning. It did not keep him completely dry however, and his coat soon began to glisten with small beads of water as they collected on top of his agouti fur, leaving him feeling damp and cold.

Doing his best to ignore the dismal weather, Lorcan continued to pick a random path onwards through the area of willow trees, hoping to catch a scent in the wind to follow. It was as he lifted his head to give another curious sniff at the air that he caught the scent of one of his female pack mates. Pausing in his stride, the male waited patiently to see if they would approach him.

Turning his head towards the sound of their voice, his golden eyes quickly fell upon @Leotie. “I’m trying to track down that lynx.” He answered, his gaze hard and serious. “It’s been getting too confident, killing too often. It needs to go.” Especially if the pack were to welcome new pups this spring. They couldn't let a potential threat like that stick around. Lorcan would be the one to chase it out.

Yes, the den curled against her pale Archer would have been much nicer than being out in the rain. While it wasn't a heavy rain it was enough to make the Agouti want to spend the afternoon in the warmth of the den. She thought she would do just that as soon as she finished up her patrol which she was on her way to do.

Her plans were changed as she discovered she wasn't the only one out in the yucky weather. Shaking her coat out she went to find him and did so soon enough. A quick inquiry as to what he was doing brought her all the information she needed.

The Agouti woman nodded, “I have noticed the scent of lynx much too frequently as well.” It seemed that their feline friend was setting up a home in the ridge which didn't sit well with her or Lorcan it seemed. “I agree he needs to go especially since he seems to be getting closer to the den's.” It seemed that it didn't care that there was a whole pack of wolves sharing the land with it. “I have some experience with Lynx. If you would like I could join you?” She offered.

The male was pleased to discover that he had not been the only one to notice the ever-growing presence of the lynx’s scent within the territory – and the fact that its scent was getting closer to the main den was a major concern. Lorcan’s black tipped tail stiffened and his scarred muzzle wrinkled, his irritation at the thought of the feline creeping around evident as looked to @Leotie. “Yeah, I don’t like it.” He admitted with a grumble.

At her offer to join him in stalking the daring cat, Lorcan gave a sharp nod of his head and wave of his tail in acceptance. “Sure, you can tag along if you’d like.” The male wasn’t going to force her. Not whilst the weather was so cold and dreary.

If she decided to follow him, Lorcan would continue onwards, sniffing at the air and along the bottom of the tree trunks for any sign of the lynx. All they needed was a tiny clue as to its whereabouts. A single hair, a claw mark, a scent mark, a discarded carcass…anything.

She didn't know the exact damage a lynx could do but she knew how ferocious they could be. It only took a little imagination to know how badly things could go if the lynx was allowed to continue to live within their territory It was taking food from them at a time when they really needed it. It could hurt the present and future pups if the ridge was lucky to have any the following spring. So many things could go wrong. They'd been lucky so far but it was best to take care of the intruder now before something could happen.

“I don't either, we need to find it and then decided on a plan to get rid of it.” Of course her opinion was that the only good lynx was a dead one but not everyone felt the same. Something told her Lorcan might agree. She smiled when he agreed to let her tag along, “Good, two noses are better than one anyway.” She hoped that with both of them looking it might come to something

She followed along sniffing the areas opposite him as they moved through the territory. ”Have you looked many places already?” She asked curiously so she would know where they hadn't and if there were any places she could suggest.

“I’d say if we do come across it, we either chase it out or kill it.” Lorcan suggested, giving the smaller agouti female a side eyed glance. Typically the male wasn’t one for needless killing but, with spring fast approaching and the lynx growing bolder with its hunting habits, Lorcan felt on edge.

Now that @Leotie had agreed to search for the critter alongside him, Lorcan felt more confident that they would find it, despite the rain. He gave her a small nod and a tiny smile before he picked up his pace and snaked his way through the trees in search of a scent trail. Stopping to brush himself up against the bark of one of the willow trees in an attempt to cover it with his own scent, an attempt to further deter the lynx should it decide to venture their way, his ears perked up at Leotie’s question.

“Only around the trees inside the territory so far. That’s where I found its last two kills, but no sign of the actual lynx yet…” It was frustrating. Which was why he had decided to investigate closer to the borders instead that morning.

Well at least he wasn't against killing the feline when they came across it. She decided to voice her opinion on the matter. “I think killing it is our only option. There is too much chance that if we chase it out it could come back and since it's getting pretty confident there is every possibility that it could come back.” She would just feel much better if it was dead, the worry would be gone and they could get on with their lives.

She agreed to go with him to search the lynx down. Since she now knew about it she couldn't very well not do anything about it. So as he searched along the trunks of the trees on one side of the path they were taking she searched the other. That way they could cover more ground at the same time. When he stopped to brush himself against one of the trees she busied herself with sniffing a little further from the path before returning to it.

“Did you find any trails when you found the kills?” She asked trying to get a better picture of things. She remembered smelling the lynx on the deer they had found together but not around it. She doubted the lynx had killed the deer before the snow but perhaps it had been a couple days, enough for it to fade from the general area. She was grasping she knew but they had to make sense of all the clues so they could track the feline.

It quickly became apparent that the smaller agouti woman was on a similar wave length to him. As she suggested to him that killing the lynx would be their best option, Lorcan turned his head to look across to her, his brows furrowing slightly. It seemed that @Leotie was tougher than he had first thought, despite her sweet and pleasant character. “I agree, we definitely do not want it coming back any time soon…” He said, before turning his gaze away again. “…especially if the pack is to welcome more pups this spring.”

After marking his scent against one of the many willow trees, Lorcan continued on his search for any signs of the lynx. This time instead of focusing his nose at the air, he craned his neck down to sniff at the snow. “On one of the kills I found a trail which led towards the borders, but the snow stopped me from following it all the way.” He said quietly, his mind obviously half focused on something else as he sniffed at the ground.

Suddenly darting off in a sprint, Lorcan raced through the willow trees on the trail of blood. Spotting a partially devoured moose carcass, the male immediately went about sniffing at it to see if it was another meal the problem lynx had left behind.
