The stench of coyotes was fierce, and the she-wolf's nose wrinkled incessantly as she tramped through the trailing underbrush. But her disgust only masked a curling thread of anxiety that made her eyes wary and her guard hairs rise. It seemed the longer she traveled alone, the more she realized they were a problem--competing for prey and stealing from her own kills, when every meal made a difference. And that was before she had come to this unfamiliar wood, where they seemed to be everywhere! Nights ago, a chorus of them were yipping and howling into the night, chilling her to the bone. A band of coyotes, emboldened and hungry... 'Lord help me,' she thought.

She wandered on, trying to sift through the air for prey, when the scent of wolf's blood hit her nose, and something else. Moments later, a faint shriek sounded from her right. She lowered her ears; someone was hurt. A tiny voice inside whispered "you can help them," but she stood rooted to the ground, conflicted.

It wasn't often that she came across the scent of lone wolves, and Mint, for all her forest friends, had taught her that it was better not to meddle. She really could help--she knew a few things about herbs, after all. But this forest was strange to her; it might not have what she needed. And she could very well be walking into a fight... a shriek like that meant nothing good for her. Maybe it was better to get a move on. She turned to leave, and had made it a few paces when yet another cry sounded from the trees, this one more distinct. A newborn! She whirled around in confusion. Someone was giving birth in the open woods, with all these coyotes around? Before she could think she found her paws carrying her briskly towards the sound, a strange mix of guilt and relief flooding her.

As she got closer, more scents came: a male, another female, and the pungent stink of coyotes. Her lips drew back in a silent snarl, and she paused briefly as she came upon the scene. A few yards across from her, the big dark male was crushing a coyote beneath him, while another pesk was circling around to approach the new mother, who lay just before her. She braced herself for a fight, looking for an opportunity to jump in.

Then, the younger female rushed the coyote. It turned tail to dart away, only to face Rin's open jaws, fast-approaching. It wasn't quite quick enough to get away, but turned just slightly so that her teeth would sink into its scruff instead its soft throat. Rin shook her head violently, ears pressed to her skull as the critter struggled in her hold. It kicked and clawed at the air, desperately trying to escape. But she held on.

Danica
(Just a quickie from Dani then back to Nia)

It was like a mad house of wolves tangled with coyotes, the fighting an overwhelming scene for the mother. Danica was ever grateful as another wolf came to help, which ensured her eldest daughter's safety and futhermore the newborns. It would settle, they would all be okay, it was going to be fine. Dani couldn't help but feel tense and anxious despite her better judgment on the situation. She pulled her two small whelps in closer and guarded them with bared canines. Ever watchful of the scene before her. The litter's sole surviver squirmed against her, wiggling about with a ferocity, but the mother kept her tucked into the thick fur of her chest. She was not going to loose both of them, and by no means was she losing the chance of properly burying the other.

Nia Hervok
Nia was shocked as the other wolf bravely came upon the scene, quick to help the yearling. It was a relief to see someone help without being asked...but would something be expected in return? She hoped not! As the strange woman held tightly onto the coyote shaking it Nia managed a few bites of her own to make the message clear. Nothing too fatal, but enough to hurt. Disgusted by the taste of another canines blood in her mouth she stopped, pulling back with a frown. This really wasn't fun.

Quickly, still panicked, she looked back to @Dread to check on how he was holding up. In horror the young wolf watched as the coyote fell limp from his jaws, emerald orbs wide in shock. No longer concerned with the stranger, her mother, and the coyote present she stepped forth slowly. While the other coyote still fought back it seemed that the stranger had this under control.

Nia moved as if she was as if she was in a trance. She aproached to the fallen pest with sad eyes and slow unsteady steps. "Did you have to kill it?" She asked softly.
