Birds fled their nests as the sneeze echoed across the glade. With spring now in full bloom, the green grass was littered with a rainbow of flowers, hues of all imaginable colours stretched across the floor. The trees that lined the glade were bustling with life, or had been until they were interrupted by the sound of a wolf sneezing.
Sticking out from the pastel colours of the glade, a dark formed crept free from the tree shadows, emerging slowly, cautiously. Slowly, each paw moved across the glade. Head up, ears alert and eyes scanning the terrain; he didn’t want to scare anyone after all and he hoped that his sneeze, thanks to the flowers which littered the floor, had alerted others that he was close by. Of course, he’d tried that approach before. Making a noise, clearing your throat, even saying hello but the result was always the same. Animal eyes would set on his figure, his tall, heavy... simply giant form and either bolt or attack. He spent his life walking on eggshells, not wanting to disturb anyone or anything these days. Of course, the sneeze hadn’t been intentional. He’d been taking a deep sniff of the air, testing for scents to ensure the glade was empty before he made his way across it, when the wind had ruffled the flowers and sent a shower of pollen in his direction.
The colours shifted beneath his feet. He stepped as delicately as he could, which was a hard task for such a large creature, as he tried to avoid stepping on the newly blooming flowers. He grimaced at each one he accidently trampled on, feeling guilty for having damaged something else with his sheer size.
He glanced to the sky; clear, warm with the sun shining on his dark face. His golden eyes sparkled in return before he looked back down to the terrain. He liked it here, the area was pretty and he really liked flowers. They were such pretty things and smelt so nice. It seemed no one was around, not even the birds anymore, so what harm would it be to just sit and rest in the sunshine and flowers for a bit? With a small smile to himself, he lowered his towering mass to the floor and laid his soft belly upon the lush grass; a little sunbathing would go down quite nicely, before he had to move on. With a content sigh, he rolled from his belly and onto his back, exposing his soft flesh to the sun and soaked up its warm rays with the chocolate of his fur. His eyes closed, a smile remained on his lips whilst his four paws were elevated towards the air. With a roll of his shoulders to rearrange the grass beneath them, he felt utterly content... except for the rumbling in his tummy that decided to sound as soon as he was peaceful. Ergh, surely he didn’t need to eat again? He’d only had a rabbit that morning. Honestly... was there nothing good to come of being so very big?
His stomach could wait a bit longer. He just wanted a few minutes to rest, to enjoy the sunshine and flowers before he would move on once more.
