Leo Vuesain

It had been a week since the meeting, and Nash’s command seriously crippling Leo’s plans of revenge. It was perhaps the first time in his life that the Vuesain felt any form of resentment towards the leader who had become a second father to him, frustration building up more and more in his chest for every day that he was stuck on the mountain, unable to do anything to truly protect his family. They did not need him patrolling, not now that Creed was here, and the boys were old enough to pitch in.

If there had been any room for lightness in his mind, he might have noticed the poetic irony of the situation – finally over his fear of leaving the pack lands, only to be stuck inside them. But all he could feel was misery. It didn’t help either that he still had yet to talk to Magg about everything, and now, with his mission thwarted, he had no excuse to put it off either.

It was late in the evening when he finally picked up his courage to seek her out, after finishing yet another pointless patrol. He’d already proven that he couldn’t protect her, and if he couldn’t avenge her either, what did he have left to offer? But she deserved to face him at least, and hear him say sorry; Whatever little that’s worth…

SHE SAYS THAT BEAUTY IS PAIN

Magg still couldn't get over how much less pain she was in now. Not that the removal of the dead bone hadn't taken its own toll, but it was largely isolated again to what was left of the limb and the space where the rest of it once had been. Instead of spreading through her whole body as the lifeless tissue slowly poisoned her, sapping all strength, stamina and wherewithal. Still, the recovery wasn't easy. She did exactly as her mother instructed, no more and no less, letting her confidence return slowly. Desperate not to fuck it up all over again.

She walked slowly, her trio of remaining legs easily tired, and simply enjoyed being home. The mountain air, the distant chittering of shorebirds, the crisp crunching beneath each paw pad. Things she'd been so close to never getting to experience again.

The patter of another set of steps drifted into focus, and her ears lifted while her brown eyes sought out the source. Leo was at a distance, approaching her, maybe? Magg looked away, an anxious surge of heat reaching her cheeks. Shit. She wasn't ready to face him yet, but it wasn't like she could outrun anyone at this point in time.

Magg could only hope a third wolf appeared and served as a distraction, or at least a buffer.

AND THERE'S BEAUTY IN EVERYTHING
