It couldn't be said that Ice was the fastest wolf in the thicket, but he was angry, and anger made up for a lot of things. A large, angry wolf would, hopefully, make the scrawny black one disinclined to come back.

His breath came in short huffs, and it did not surprise him at all that Jessie easily passed him, powering on at the heels of the idiot. But Ice had endurance on his side; he couldn't sprint worth shit, but he could keep a decent pace for a prolonged period of time, and doggedly he followed the trail of the faster wolves. The scent of Swift River grew stronger and stronger as they approached the border, and then they were out in the open. Ice hoped the loner wouldn't bother coming back - they'd be ready for him, and this time, he wouldn't let him get away. Eventually Ice drew to a halt among the old trees, sides heaving and tongue lolling out between his wide-open jaws.

"Ice!!" His name rang out in a familiar voice somewhere ahead of him, and a deep half-howl slipped out of his mouth. He was still here.. somewhere. Still worked up from the trachle he groaned under his breath as he forced his legs into a wolf's trot again, his paws beating the familiar ground. He'd tried to run faster than he usually did, and with his bulk, it was a bit exhausting, but nonetheless, he was a wolf, and wolves weren't weak. After a moment he came prowling around the trunks, spying Jessie and giving a yipped bark of greeting. "You alright?" he asked and moved up to nuzzle the base of her ear fondly.

It was not long before she heard a short howl call from her snowy pack mate. It was a relief to know that he was alright and was coming for her. Though, when she saw his white form, she met him halfway instead of making him trot all the way towards her. In the end, the pepper and salt colored woman ended up sprinting and bumping into his burly white chest. Unlike last time Swift River had gotten an intruder, things had not ended so well for her…or him once Triell and Ice had gotten to him. She buried her muzzle into the depths of his thick, pure fur and inhaled his familiar scent. The only scent, that to her, was safe. Her heart was finally started to calm from her long sprint and her gray ears flickered slightly with the question but before she answered, she relaxed into the calming touch of Ice’s muzzle at the base of her ear. A short sigh escaped her as she pulled away and looked up at him, "Yes, I’m fine. How about you?"

She tilted her head slightly, her eyes roaming her Guardian’s body looking for any sign of injuries. Jess was generally worried about him, as she usually was when it came to friends that she was particularly close with. At first, she had felt as if she had rubbed Ice the wrong way, but eventually it seemed as though the two had ended up becoming extremely close friends. Both wolves benefitted off of one another when they worked together and at times were the pillar that kept the other together. She did not know what she would do without Ice in her life. As of yet, he was the only constant that she was close to. There was also Marsh, but she had not seen the silent man in some time, but she was sure something would have been mentioned if she would have to worry. But the girl had faith in her pack mates and she knew that if she needed to know something important, than she would know.

She came barreling like the devil herself, and Ice, mildly surprised, stopped, and planted all four feet firmly. Better be ready, because it looked like she wasn't about to stop.. and she didn't, smacking into his chest and drawing an oomph from him, but he didn't budge. She was, after all, small, but why she was so excited to see him..? Maybe it was the after-effect of adrenaline, considering the small hunt they'd just undertaken, but he found it a rather soothing thing, somehow, and lolled his tongue out in a grin. As far as he could remember, she'd never quite done this before - burying her muzzle in his fur that way, as if he was about to evaporate or something... He sort of grunt-whine-growled, tail waving behind him, not knowing how else to convey that it was rather comfy to be thoroughly hugged.

She was fine, she said, and he was inclined to believe her - it seemed the stupid loner had taken off at a dead run rather than stand and face either of them, for which he was grateful. Still, he gave her a crooked grin and nipped at her ear. "Aside from almost being flattened by a wolf half my size," said with a hint of playful fondness, "I am fine, too." Not that he minded, really; he was big enough to deal with it, but not yet calm enough. His gaze flitted out to the forest, the remnant of a growl trembling through his chest, but he said nothing - just nudged her hip, encouraging her to walk back home with him.

Jess was glad for Ice’s closeness and for the fact that he did not mind her being so close to her. Somehow, she was comfortable with her big ass of a snowball unlike how she grew slightly uncomfortable when say…around her sister. She flicked her ears when he spoke to her, his chest rumbling against her muzzle and she had to contain her small giggle with her words. At first she had thought he was referring to the loner that they had both chased out, but when she heard a playful note within his voice, she then assumed he was speaking of her. Backing away so that she could look into his baby bluish eyes, she let a playful grin spread across her features, "Too bad the river wasn’t nearby. You’d be soaked." She wagged her tail behind her good naturedly. Jessie knew how much Ice loathed being wet or even water in general and she found an even greater joy in teasing him about it whenever she got a chance. This…would be one of those time.

The small growl that emitted from his mouth caused her to turn seriously once more, and when Ice nudged her hip, she compliantly followed behind him, every once and awhile bumping her hip against his in a teasing manner. She was glad that the Swift River wolves had turned out to be victorious this time. The loner had stolen nothing from them, but instead had given them something to boost their confidence. Neither wolf had been injured either and it provided both wolves with more energy than they would have had if blood would have been drawn…on their side at least. In a sense, Jessie knew that when the two returned back to the heart of the territory, they would be exhausted. Both just needed their adrenaline rush to calm and they would be out like the fading sun.

She retorted with, "Too bad the river wasn’t nearby. You’d be soaked." and he snorted, prowling along into the Grove. He still kept out of the waters when he could, preferring to be dry or rubbing off dirt once it had dried, but Triell had dunked him enough times to take the edge off it. "And you'd be just as wet," he told her, leaning in to nip at her ear while his tail swayed behind him. He was fairly certain that idiot loner wasn't going to try something again soon, and that knowledge slowly worked the tension from his muscles. Eyes and ears played across the terrain, listening intently, but step by step the set of his shoulders grew looser. They were safe again, now, and he wanted to curl up somewhere and sleep, dreaming of the future.
