Not long after her sneeze Karina heard a little creature crashing its way through the redwoods, far too loud to be one of the woodland animals that usually inhabited the forest floor. “Find you!” Her sister squeaked triumphantly, and Karina let out the breath she had been holding. How had she actually ended up playing with the girl, of all things? Mother help her, how had everything gone so wrong? The older sister forced a smile, but then her eyes lit up genuinely as she thought up her brand new plan of escape. All that running around had to be exhausting the little girl, as little babies like her were only active in small spurts before requiring a nap. Perhaps if Karina couldn’t convince the child to leave her be, she could play with her so hard that the girl just tired out.

“Okay, your turn!” Karina said, jumping to her feet. “Go, run, hide! Run fast, I’m coming!” She encouraged Inna with urgency in her voice. “You can’t play hide and seek without hiding!” The little princess was probably too young to remember any of this when she was older, but at least Karina would be able to say that she had taught her sister something. That was worth another couple moons of avoiding her completely, in Karina’s opinion. As she bounced and toddled away, the girl looked very much like a little blackbird, hopping along the forest floor here and there. “Fly away, little bird!” Karina called out. If she were really playing she would be closing her eyes, but of course Inna was too young to be let out of sight.

Tiny PP with Inna running to hide.. I'll take it out if you don't have her run and hide in the next post.

It's fine I thought it was cute.

It was a fun game chasing the girl and looking for her but what was more fun was finding her.  Inna couldn't keep the happiness out of her voice when she did find the girl.  She bounced up and down on her tiny front legs after shouting she'd found her.  She wanted to know the next part of the game and hoped it would be just as fun as the last part. She was having so much fun that she wished her sister was there to join her. She was sure Lekalta would like the game very much.  Since she wasn't there though Inna thought that once she was very good at it she could show her and they could play together.

She did not have to wait very long to find out the next part of the game.  It was her turn to hide.  Inna couldn't help bouncing up and down with plenty of giggles before she turned to run and hide.  "Inna hide," she cried as she went. She looked about the clearing for a good place like the girl had.  That was what she needed and she knew she had to keep quiet.  That was what it meant to hide she knew.  Finally she found a bush that she crawled under.  This should be a perfect hiding place she thought while waiting for the girl to come find her too.

Karina sighed as her raven-coated sister bounded away to disappear into the forest. Even when the child disappeared from Karina’s limited sight, the older sibling could still pinpoint her location from the sounds of her little body scrambling through the forest. All was still after a moment, and Karina heaved another sigh before dragging herself after her much more enthusiastic playmate. As the eldest Baranski princess neared her hidden companion’s location—somewhere in or beneath a small bush, from how it smelled—she stopped suddenly and then after a pause, veered off course. It would not do to find the girl right away; that would only serve to feed her excitement and energy. No, Karina would let the girl hide for a little while, and get a little bored.. a little tired..

She hummed as she feigned her search, peering behind rocks and beneath the gnarled roots of the redwood trees that made up the woods of Kingsfall. After a little while Karina could feel her own energy waning, and she knew her tiny sister must be feeling similarly. Karina wouldn’t be surprised if she found the girl sound asleep in her hiding place! Finally, after making a show of checking all of the possible hiding places around the bush, the older girl wandered back over to the bush in question. She sniffed at it for a moment before ducking her head beneath its bottommost branches. “Found you, little bird,”she commented in a low, even tone, being careful not to work the girl up all over again.

Inna Baranski

Inna became much more excited about the game she was playing with the girl when it was her turn to hide.  As she bounded off to find a good hiding place she wanted it to be the best hiding place.  A bush not too far from where the girl had hidden and where the den was located looked like it might be just the place that she was looking for.  Inna quickly made her way over to is and scrambled underneath before settling down to wait for the girl to find her.  She tried to stay as quiet as possibly but as a puppy wanting to get up and move around made that very difficult.  She wondered how long it might take for the girl to find her and as she waited her tiny body trembled with excitement and anticipation of being found.

Peeking out between the lower branches of the bush she could see the girl moving about looking for her.  Inna shifted under the bush with impatience that she hadn’t been found yet and slowly her excitement for the game start to slowly wane.  The longer that she was under the bush she started to feel how tired and hungry she had become.  When the girl still hadn’t found her after what seemed to Inna to be a long time had passed she finally laid her head down on her little paws to continue her wait.  Then just as her eyes were starting to grow heavy with sleep the girl poked her head through the lower branches and declared she had found her.  Inna slowly raised her head and yawned before saying, “We go again?” In response though her tone was full of sleepiness.

Thanks for the thread! Feel free to write a last reply or just archive!

Karina smiled at the child’s reaction to being found, because it seemed things had gone exactly according to plan. The girl’s puppy-blue eyes found her own gaze through the branches, fixing her with a content, sleepy look. Karina’s tail wagged as Inna yawned before even speaking. The older sister nearly laughed out loud when the exhausted child asked to play again—she looked like she would pass out before she even made it back to the den, much less. "After you’ve had a snack,” she said in an overly mellifluous tone. Karina agreed so that the girl wouldn’t argue, but she knew very well that Inna would fall asleep as soon as she had eaten. Karina dipped her nose under the lower branches and raised them so that the pup could have an easier time crawling out.

When Inna had successfully extricated herself from the bush, Karina tipped her head in the direction of the whelping den. Inna was only just developing her senses, and probably had no idea how to get home without help. It was slow going back to the den with the girl so sleepy (and traveling on such short legs!) and by the time they arrived back at the den the child looked like little more than a zombie. Karina could hear the other pup suckling in the darkness of the den, and she knew they had arrived back right on time. Kisla had no doubt awaken to find Karina’s Nootka Rose and known her youngest daughter was safe with her eldest.  ”Goodbye little bird,” Karina whispered as the girl waddled into the den. The yearling disappeared from the opening of the den as soon as her charge was safely inside, headed directly for Zephyr Rill where she could get some hard-earned alone time.
