Inna Baranski
Open to family or any members of the pack who are brave enough to visit the den,

There was a brightness against her blurry vision that she didn’t understand why it as there.  She didn’t understand about the whys and how’s of a lot of things but what she did understand is that she didn’t feel the warmth of the large thing, her mother, that supplied her with the things that she needed and the other, her sister, that she shared those things with and curled up with to sleep.  Inna supposed that was what had woken her up from the sleep that she had ben partaking in only moments before.  She wanted to get back to it but Inna wasn’t comfortable sleeping without the warmth of her mother and sister.  She tried to smell for them but she could not find their scents anywhere around her so she decided that she should go look for them.

That was a curious task in itself as she tried to lift her body up onto her legs which up until now she had only used them to pull herself closer to her mother and sister.  They were wobbly underneath her and she fell a couple of time rolling over onto her side. Finally she became a little frustrated and thought better so she decided to call for her mother, “Hnnnnn,” the puppy whined then waited for her whimpers to be answered. When there was no movement in her blurry vision she tried again, “Hnnnnnnnnn,” she whimpered once more and waited for her mother or sister to come and lay with her.

Kjors Sørenson
As much as he craved an heir, Kjors had little interest in the puppies born to Hearthwood River this year. A second litter of two princesses was sure to be spoiled, and such a thing would not raise a dragon. It would be a dragon fit for his throne, and it was only treasure he wished to keep near. He'd already found the finest among the Baranski offspring - @Karina was his imperfect gem. There would never be another like her, and the male was willing to guard her affections jealously. It was for that main reason that he made little effort to observe her sisters, lest he stop by to cast an eye over the queen.

Visiting @Kisla was the very reason he wandered by the den this day, not approaching too closely. While he'd never had a mate himself, he was not unwise to the ways of mothers and their new broods. Offering a soft chuff to announce his presence, he crouched down to peer inside. Was the alpha sleeping, and he'd see himself off. Instead, he found no adult inside, and only the children – one of them was crying. His ears pressed flat against his skull as he rocked back, glancing around for their mother or father. Hell, even one of the older siblings would have been fine. Alas, there were no family members in the immediate vicinity, nor the nosy scout who seemed to have a vested interest in the newest brood. It would not bode well, if he bothered the children – but would it be worse, if he left one injured and by itself?

With a hefty sigh, he offered his mother a brief prayer for instruction before hunkering down, poking his nose into the den. "Are you hurt?" he asked softly, tail curled around his haunches as he tried to look Inna over. He dare not touch her and leave his scent upon the newborn, opting instead to look just inside.

Popping in.. ;)

Kisla nor her mate were ever far from their brood for long – Maksim had gone off to finalize the markings of their territory, while she had slipped out to relieve herself for only a stolen moment. The fresh air was pleasing, but she took no more time than required – and yet, as she closed the distance between herself now and the den, she noticed Kjors slip in to the shadows, eliciting a small furrow of her brow as she watched him.

Inna was crying – startled, perhaps, by the lack of warmth from her mother’s fur, and had the honeyed woman not heard the male’s gentle voice trying to instill peace upon her, the mother would have brushed within, firmly between him and her brood.

But it was his intention that soothed her, and so Kisla allowed her shadow to play at the mouth of the den.. careful green eyes sweeping over him before giving a small nod. She might have been distrustful of new wolves, but Kjors had yet to instill any concern in her.. and so, she allowed the grizzled male to familiarize himself with the newest brood of Hearthwood River, curious of his own experiences with pups.

Settling down to her haunches, Kisla took the opportunity to remain at the mouth of the den, inhaling the soft summer air with stolen enjoyment. Rolling her shoulders back, the Baranski lady forced herself to relax, her tail now flicking to curl toward her creamy forepaws. Inna and Lekalta needed to be introduced to their pack mates – and she wondered if Kjors would take as much interest in their lives as he had with Karina’s.

The wait for her call to be answered had seemed a very long time to the tiny puppy but was really only a few moments before she saw a movement in the bright light.  She thought that perhaps her mother had finally come which caused her short tail to swish slightly behind her.  At this time she also realized that she was rather hungry too.  So with the prospect of food she tried once more to pull herself up onto her wobbly legs and this time she was able to stand but when she went to take a few steps toward what she thought was her mother she stumbled again.  Inna finally decided to just crawl towards the bright light and the movement eager to be with her mother once more.

Then the figure that had blocked some of the light from her blurry vision spoke and it was not the sound of her mother or her father’s voice.  She had not heard the sound before and wondered where her mother was, perhaps this new voice could find them for her.  “Hnnnnnn,” she whimpered once more at the new figure as she crawled toward it.  She was set on her goal to reach the light and the figure that had moved in it.  She didn’t want to let the fact that her little legs were still wobbly to stop her and soon she reached her destination.

The figure seemed very big to her and his smell was the same but different at the same time from her mother and fathers smells.  Inna blinked up at him, “Hnnnnn,” she whined at him trying to tell him what she wanted.

Not surprisingly, the puppy did not have the words to answer him. Her eyes were open, a periwinkle blue clear enough to rival the sky, but all her sounds were only that. Noises. Little grunts and whines that a mother might be trained to understand, but a wolf who did not share blood would not be privy the language of puppies. His ears swiveled forward in a desperate attempt, only assessing a hint of longing in her tone. What she wanted, he could only guess: warmth, sleep, something to eat, her mother? None of these things he could provide, and he surely wasn't crawling in their any further. That was open invitation for the parents to rip him to bits, and no one would question a pair of alphas defending their newest litter.

Before he could puzzle any further, the one-eyed man became aware of another scent joining. Quickly, the man scurried back from the mouth, ears pressed out towards the side as he turned his head to sight the woman. He could not see from his right side, but acknowledged her with a nod before turning back towards the waddling pup. Perhaps Inna had sensed something he had not – the bond between a mother and her child was something he was deprived of, and never made an effort to understand.

After a moment, he glanced back down, realizing the female was still toddling towards the entrance of the den. "Ah think she wants somethin'," he grumbled, glancing at Kisla expectantly. "She's cryin'. Didn' see 'ny marks on here, though."

Kjors seemed perplexed at the tiny cub – she wondered briefly if the swarthy male had ever bred in his prior years.. though given his lack of expertise on the subject, she could not imagine it as so. He was of a prime age now, and she wondered quietly if next breeding season would see the River wolves less by not only their newer member, but also that of Lachesis and his swarthy mate, Bastet.. the girl who was never around.

A small smile crept to her muzzle at his words, though it was truly inspired by the grunting ebony babe as she waddled closer now to the den entrance. She would shift her weight then, her muzzle stretching out to smooth along the length of her daughter’s spine, crooning quietly to her. “She seeks food or warmth – usually both,” she murmured in response, her eyes fondly regarding the girl’s face as she noted how crystal blue her eyes were. Karina’s own eyes had mirrored such hues – and then they had faded, as well as part of her sight. If anything, her daughter was stronger for it.. not weakened. Or so, the mother liked to think so.

“How is Karina’s training?” The true reason the swarthy male stood before her was that her daughter had vouched for him.. insisting he would and could train her in the art of fighting. While their enemies remained back in the heart of Relic Lore, she did not wish for any of her members to be vulnerable.. especially her partially blind girl.

Inna Baranski

Inna did not understand why the figure kept moving away from her, she thought that he might be able to help her to find her mother.  Whimpered in disappointment that she couldn’t find her mother before she heard the man speak.  She didn’t understand the words coming from him but she thought that maybe he was talking to her until she felt a pressure along her back and heard her mother’s croon.  Inna immediately felt relieved that her mother was there with her at last.  She wondered if her mother would be coming inside the den soon so that she could eat and get back to the dream that she had been woken from.

Then her mother spoke too but again she could not understand what was being said and wondered if her mother was speaking to her.  When Inna tried to look up at the adults she ended up rolling over on to her side which elicited a small whimper out of her in frustration.  With a huff she tried to get back to her feet once more but she was having just as much trouble as she’d had before. So for the moment with a huff she settled on smelling the ground around her for something that might interest her.

While Kisla was correct in her assumption of the subordinate's breeding history, she might not be as accurate in her future predictions.  The dragon had thought he'd found a mate, once, in the badger woman.  The massive gray wolf was able to keep up with him in intelligent conversation – something he found most could not.  It was a shared sort of history that had brought the two close, but despite his courting efforts, packs at war had turned them asunder.  His pledge to the queen and her crew had proven to be the death knell for his fledging romance with Urotho, and the swarthy male was not eager to find himself in a similar situation so soon…no matter how deeply he wished for heirs of his own.

"Oh," he muttered, ears still flat out to the side as he studied little Inna.  He supposed that made perfect sense, small as the cub was, though he was unsure if he should be offering provide such a thing.  He might have asked, had the dark pup not toppled over and released a sound of dismay.  Kjors started forward, single eye wide as he leaned down to help the puppy back to her feet – unnecessary, as the princess quietly righted herself.  He reached forward once, to brush some of the dirt off her soft baby fur, and took a respectful step backwards for the mother and daughter to move together, if they wished.

It was much easier to talk about Karina, he found, something warm in his eye as he hummed.  "Well.  She ain't ever gonna be a fighter, y'know.  She ain't not soldier."  She was much too clever to be put in such a menial role, she was much to precious to throw away so foolishly.  Some others could see her worth, but he would not allow anyone to cavail the girl – she was different, yes, but when she prevailed, it would be the naysayers that felt their lack of worth.  One day, they would all see what a true treasure she'd always been.  "But she's gonna be able t' protect herself, should she ever find th' need.  Which's th' goal, Ah suspect.  Fathers ain't around ferever."

Kjors was humble in his ways -- or so, she would observe as his ears flattened at her simple answer. Inna tottered, and quickly, the dark wolf would upright her.. no doubt, she imagined, with the same swiftness he would upright her eldest daughter when she required it. Karina had been quite persistent on the subject of allowing Kjors to stay with them -- and had her daughter not vouched for the man, she might have turned him away until they had settled the pack more. But her daughter was only now just beginning to blossom -- and a part of the tawny regal was curious to know if Kjors played a role in this.

As he spoke, Kisla allowed her vision to drift away from him and regard Inna, who was taken with the ground about her now. Leaning forward, the honeyed she-wolf scooped her inky daughter closer to her chest, her tongue finding its way to the girl's crown as she began to groom her quietly -- fussing over her, as if allowing her to know she had not been forgotten despite their visitor. "No, she is a healer," she believed, her words thoughtful as she canted her muzzle to the side. "But I want her to be able to protect herself from those that might harm her -- those like the wolves at Whisper Caverns." Karina was not the only one to be trained -- the majority of the River wolves were healers.. and soon, Kisla  was not opposed to holding a full day of training, where each River wolf would spar.
